SHAREN - Energy-Sharing Solutions and Communities for Enhanced Renewable Energy in The Mediterranean Historic Centres Project
LCEC is excited to announce the launch of the SHAREN Project – IEnergy-Sharing Solutions and Communities for Enhanced Renewable Energy in The Mediterranean Historic Centres Project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme.
The three-year project brings together seven partners from Lebanon, Spain, Türkiye, Italy, and Jordan to address, through transnational cooperation, the Mediterranean challenge of the Energy Transition in Heritage urban contexts.
SHAREN aims to:
✅ Establish and test innovative Energy Sharing Schemes (ESS) and Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) tailored to Mediterranean historic centres, addressing technical, legal, financial, and heritage-related constraints.
✅ Enable local clean energy production, reduce energy costs, and lower greenhouse gas emissions while safeguarding cultural heritage buildings.
✅ Strengthen community engagement and citizen participation in the energy market by empowering local stakeholders as active actors in the energy transition.
✅ Support evidence-based policymaking through shared protocols, guidelines, and policy recommendations aimed at improving renewable energy frameworks in Mediterranean historic areas.
✅ Ensure replicability and transferability of results through pilot projects, a common SHAREN Protocol and Guide, and a structured Transfer Programme to facilitate uptake by other cities and regions.
