The World Energy Trilemma Workshop entitled "“Post-2015 sustainability goals: challenges and opportunities for the energy sector” was held on Sunday, 22 February 2015 from 10.00 am to 1 pm in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The event was be hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Business meetings and other visits were held on the 23rd of Feb. 2015.
The workshop investigated the challenges and opportunities as well as assist policymakers, business, finance and civil society in determining post-2015 sustainability goals for the energy sector in the Middle Eastern region. Sustainability goals include ensuring access to affordable energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, both have to be considered while bearing in mind the fundamental objective of energy security and economic growth.
The findings of the workshop will be included in the 2015 World Energy Trilemma report, which will be shared at the Clean Energy Ministerial in‪Mexico at the end of May 2015, with all parties negotiating the post-2015 climate agreement as well as the 30-member Open Working Group of the UN General Assembly working on the new sustainable goals.
The Lebanese delegation that participated to the event was consisted of Mr. Mazen Halawi, the vice director of the financing unit at Central Bank of Lebanon and 2 WEC gold members, namely Mr. Ronald Choukair from Debbas and Mrs. Maha Chalouhi from NEEDS.
