Rani Al Achkar is the Director of Engineering and Planning at the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC), Lebanon’s national energy agency hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Water. A member of LCEC since 2009, he started as a UNDP officer and then as a founding member of LCEC.
Rani was responsible for the registration of the first Lebanese Clean Development Mechanism projects in Lebanon related to the national lamps replacement program. He was involved in the installation of the first solar water heaters testing facility at the Industrial Research Institute. He was leading the implementation of the MED-DESIRE project financed by the European Neighborhood Partnership Instrument- Cross Border Cooperation initiative. He was coordinating the execution of the Beirut River Solar Snake 1 MW grid-connected solar farm and the 1 MW grid-connected solar farm in the Lebanon Oil Installations in Zahrani.
Rani is currently responsible for the installation of 10 grid-connected solar plants in 10 public buildings. He is member of the committee responsible for the negotiation of power purchase agreements related to the first wind farms by the private sector and leading on a first bid for solar farms by the private sector in Lebanon.
Rani holds an Electrical Engineering diploma from the Lebanese University- Faculty of Engineering. He is a member of the Order of Engineers and Architects in Beirut.
